2nd International workshop on interdisciplinary research in Accounting

The key objective of the workshop is to promote high quality research in accounting and business. The workshop and the related activities will provide a forum to strengthen relationships between individual members and explore potential opportunities in areas such as research projects, PhD supervision, research centres, joint seminars, and academic conferences. Specifically the workshop exposes the participants in the intricacies and complexities of interdisciplinary research in Accounting with a focus on qualitative research methods, in order to develop and enhance skills inqualitative research and encourage participants to engage and collaborate with other researchers.

The workshop scheduled on15-16 November 2017 that sets out the following objectives:

 Exchange research ideas between presenters and participants

 Presentations on qualitative research methods

Share feedback on participant’s research projects

The workshop welcomes submissions in accounting disciplineareas including professionalism in accounting, codes of ethics, ethical decision making, corporate social responsibility and governance. Young faculty members and graduate students are especially encouragedto submit papers.

Paper submission

For those who are interested in presenting a paper in the workshop, please send your full paper or long abstract (1-2 pages) in PDF to the workshop coordinator Dr. Lin Liao ([e-mail]) by November 1st, 2017. Please indicate “your name + title”in the subject of email. Authors will be notified of decisions by November 5th,2017. 

Workshop Fees  

There is no registration fee for attending the workshop. We will provide a domestic return ticket and three night’s accommodation for presenters of selected papers.

Professor Steven Dellaportas: Fellow of CPA Australia, Duty Head (Research) in the School of Accounting, RMIT University, Accounting section joint editor of Journal of Business Ethics, Associate editor of Accounting Education.

Professor Steven Dellaportas

Steven Dellaportas is a Fellow of CPA Australia and Duty Head (Research) in the School of Accounting, RMIT University. Steven is also presently Accounting section editor: Journal of Business Ethics and Associate editor of Accounting Education.His prior affiliations include Deakin University, La Trobe University and Federation University Australia. Steven is the lead author of Principles of Ethics and Corporate Governancein Financial Services published by Mc Graw Hill, 2012. Steven primary area of research is professional ethics and education has published several articles in peer reviewed journals: Journal of Business ethics; Critical Perspectives on Accounting; Corporate Governance – An International Review; Journal of Accounting Literature; Accounting and Finance; Accounting Forum, Australian Accounting Review; Social Responsibility Journal;Journal of Business Ethics Education; and Accounting Education.

Dr Lina Xu

Lina Xu is a lecturer in the School of Accounting at RMIT. Melbourne, Australia. Lina has been teaching at university level since 2011 mainly in the areas of Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Lina has completed her PhD in accounting at University of Wollongong in 2015, and her PhD thesis has adopted Gramsci’s theory of hegemony to explore the political influence on the accounting evolution in China in the period 1949 to 1992. When she has finished her PhD in Wollongong University, she has been awarded as HDR Excellence Award. Lina has published papers in Accounting History, Asian Review of Accounting, and she has won the Best Manuscript Award for 2014 in Accounting History.

Dr Sophia Ji

Sophia Ji is a lecturer in accounting at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. Her research interests lie in the areas of qualitative research methods, social and environmental accounting,environmental regulation, sustainability, accounting theory, and accounting education. Sophia has published several projects in accounting and environmental law journals. She also has more than ten years of practical experience working as a management accountant specialising in project budgetingand costing in a large Chinese State Owned listed enterprise. Sophia is a reviewer for a number of accounting journals and conferences including Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Managerial Auditing Journal, PRISM, 8th Asia-Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference and RMIT Accounting for Sustainability Conference.
